Well researched and an inspirational story.

This book was purchased for my twelve year old son in an attempt to encourage him to read more! Although he does share my love of books YouTube seems to have taken over his life recently so I have been picking up short books like this as some bedtime reading for him. My boy actually read the book in one sitting and has forever since been providing us with facts about Messi. Clearly the parts of the book he enjoyed the most were when reading about Messi’s teenage years as for obvious reasons this was something he could both identify and dream about!

I have read through the book myself and it is an inspirational rags to riches story, I can see why my boy enjoyed it so much, lots of trivia about the man himself, loved the bit about being offered a Barca contract which was written on a napkin!

This is an obvious choice for football fans but readers who enjoy sports biographies and trivia will also enjoy it.

Murda', Misogyny, and Mayhem

I encourage the world to read this powerful piece of writing. This book not only had an effect on me as an inspiring actress- but it encouraged me to continue to grow as a scholarly woman.
Growing up; I always wanted to know- what happened to my generation of Hip-Hop? To tell you the truth my generation don't even know what Hip- Hop is- as my elders would so fluently express. Therefore, waking up at 1:30 am on a Wednesday morning, and reading Murda', Misogyny, and Mayhem - I was hoping that at least my question would be answered in some form. It certainly was- my question was broken down to me about how through "Hip-Hop" media now days- we promote our own stereotypical images through our urban community. In addition to, the book answered my question as to why- I never knew the "true Hip- Hop". In the third chapter, The History of African Americans in Mainstream Film: A sociopolitical and Historic Analysis gave in depth understanding for me as an upcoming Actress. This chapter gave me a thorough understanding of- how we are not only promoting the stereotypes in the "music", but in mainstream film as well. Before, I took a class with Ma'am (Dr. Zoe Spencer)- Ma'am is what I've so aptly named her. Taking her class was beneficial to my acting career, because after thoroughly understanding the "stereotypical constructs"- I now understand how it plays a major role in our music and acting industry.
I've stated many of times: That I wasn't coming to college; I was going straight to Hollywood- now when I look back my heart flutters with joy that I made the choice to come. If I wouldn't have came; I would have been another young unconscious actress in the media lost to lies that are being told, instead of, the TRUTH. I can PROUDLY say - through Ma'am class and book, I too am evolving into a conscious actress on the grounds of college. I believe, and I can certainly argue - that Ma'am wrote this book for young inspiring stars, such as I, so when it is our time to step in "Hollywood" - we are speaking the conscious TRUTH.
I AM GLAD- I CAME TO COLLEGE, because I wouldn't have ever experienced such profound writing such as- Murda', Misogyny, and Mayhem. I hope that this book review be read with an open heart and mind. I have enclose to you what has really impacted me most about this book- hoping that you would purchase the book, so that your knowledge can be expanded by such a book as this.

A MUST READ!!!!! FOR THE HIP HOP GENERATION

This book is a MUST read.I absolutely loved it. I am a part of the hip hop generation and have always talked about the way it has changed. This book reflected everything that I felt. It is powerful. Even though it can be quite academic in places, I understand that it was necessary for Spencer to lay that foundation. The book forces the reader to recognize that the media "is a tool" that is used to MANIPULATE public perception, even when it comes in the form of entertainment. It then takes the reader on a journey through how African Americans have been presented in the media througout history which is powerful because it takes it out of conspiracy theory mode to an argument that is grounded in history. It shows that every image has been deliberate. After the first three chapters have laid the foundation, Spencer "goes in" on the influence of Hip Hop, calling out Jay Z and other "rappers/actors" who aint saying "nuthin new." I have read many books about hip hop, including Dyson-which she references, and I can say that she definitely exposes the problem from a unique and thorough perspective, just like Dr. Molefi Asante said in his foreword of her work. This is a must read for anyone 'who used to love' hip hop.

Dr. Zoe Spencer has outdone herself! She is so talented and intelligent. Murda', Misogyny, and Mayhem is a great read. Although it serves its academic purposes, it is very interesting and thought provoking. This book will really teach its readers all there is to know about the negative influences of hip-hop on the African American community. I strongly urge everyone to read this book. It is really empowering and life changing. Dr. Zoe Spencer has done a wonderful thing by revealing the TRUTH about what we "think" is positive and real!

Grade 1-5-- Chief Sealth (called "Seattle" by Jeffers) may not, in fact, be the historical source of the speech commonly attributed to him, and abridged and adapted here. But the message it conveys has never been more pointed, poignant, and powerful. Jeffers's popular pen-and-color style means that the illustrations are romantic and attractive. Alas, her entire stock of characters appears to have come from Sioux Central Casting, complete with Plains ponies and tipis (and one incongruous birchbark canoe lifted from the Algonquians). The beautiful and important words of the text ("The earth does not belong to us. We belong to the earth. . . All things are connected like the blood that unites us.") are not well served by images that ignore the rich diversity of Amerindian cultures (even Sealth's own Northwest people) in favor of cigar-store redskins in feathers and fringe. I grew up reading this book. My brother was Brother Eagle and I was Sister Sky. It is a beautifully illustrated book with a powerful, well written message. I had to find it for my children to grow up on because the moral of the story is one I want to pass on for generations to come. Chief Seattle was a wise man with incredible integrity. His words accompanied by the incredible artwork creates a best seller and staple book for everyone, children and adults too!

I love this book

I love this book! Nice pages, one sided. Drawings are pretty, I hope he makes another! Posting a couple pages,, because I always like to see a few pages before I buy. I recommend this book!

A pretty coloring book

This is a really nice coloring book. There are a variety of faces, some minimalist and others more elaborate, and art is done by a number of different artists. Most are of pretty women with flowing hair or surrounded by flowers and leaves or swirls and the like. Some are of younger girls with big eyes, though not really Manga. Almost all are artsy or fashion-y.

I wouldn't mind another compilation like this, but I do wish the paper was a bit more substantial. Fortunately the back side of images are blank pages, so no fear of marker bleeding through. (It does bleed through the back, though, so be forewarned, but it's easy enough to slip a sheet of paper between the page being colored and the next page in the book so it doesn't risk being marred by ink.) The page texture works better for coloring pencil, I've found. I think it'd work very well for crayons, too. The paper soaks up the marker ink nicely for a vivid image -- be careful drawing in lines, because depending on the marker you could see some bleed outside the lines -- but the "feel" of the paper works really well for colored pencil so one can do more shading and layering of colors, etc.

One of the images was a touch pixelated, which I was a bit disappointed by, but there are many images to have fun coloring. I've been cutting them out with a box cutter so I can more easily color the pages I want, so another nicety would have been perforations to tear images out, but overall, a nice book, and I really love the pictures in it. It's exactly what I've been looking for in a coloring book. It's great for anyone who loves to color images of women's faces and flowers and swirls, etc. Perfect for a young girl or a grownup who loves to color.

AWESOME ADULT COLORING BOOK WITH PRETTY FACES

Adult coloring has become my therapy. I love it. That being said, the only adult color book I have truly enjoyed coloring is Fanciful Faces. I have been searching and searching for a book with interesting faces to color. I just ordered this one, "Faces Coloring Book" by Nick Snels and it is AWESOME!!! It beats the Fanciful Faces coloring book by FAR!!! I LOVE IT!!! Highly recommend. I hope he does a Volume 2.....and.....3.......4.......

History comes alive

Although my grandparents emigrated from Ireland, they do not have an Irish surname. I have long wondered if perhaps they themselves are Huguenot descendants. This book is a wealth of information, not only for those of us who are descended from western European Protestants, but for those who are interested in the history of the mid Atlantic states. It also details well the considerable loss of skilled tradesmen France suffered because of its paranoid persecution of its Protestant population. There is still one Huguenot congregation with a gorgeous church in Charleston, SC.

Unreadable. I am angry. A 19th century book (not the published date in the Kindle Store) The pages scanned directly are so pale as to be indecipherable and those brought to text are jumbled beyond comprehension. Very disappointing Kindle!!

Restrospectively, "Love Like Crazy" was probably my favorite album of 2010. A gifted songwriter, Lee Brice came onto the scene with a powerful debute album, that had it all for me: catchy melodies, story-driven lyrics and uptempo, as well as slow songs. From the almost-dance-track "Four On The Floor" which is actually calling for an extended mix version, to the power-ballad of "Happy Endings", the album shines with a very modern, almost pop production, that still stands as country. With 10 out of 12 songs written by Lee, I hope to hear a lot more by this talented guy with this powerful voice!

I am a very good skier with a singular desire to better. This is my Bible. It can enrich and change the way you think (IMAGE) about (PERFORM) movement. Again, the book is priceless !

An excellent book for anyone studying tai chi whether a beginner or expert.

I have have been a student of numerous martial art systems over the last 60 years years and this excellent book is one of the texts I studied when taking the Yang system of Tai Chi from a master of the Yang system. In time, I was awarded my teaching certificate in Tai Chi, but I now teach a seated version of Tai Chi because of my limited physical ability at this time.

Like any martial art book, one cannot master the actual techniques without receiving lessons under a competent and certified Tai Chi instructor. The information and lessons in this book teach the essential philosophical basis of Tai Chi principles which is invaluable for anyone studying this art. Some of the many topics covered include the following: Tai Chi Chuan Ching and Lun, Insights into the practice of thirteen postures, song of hand pushing, five character secret, Essentials of the practice of push hands and Yangs ten important points.

In conclusion, this book is a true Tai Chi Classic that every serious student of Tai Chi will benefit from reading.

Vegan diet is the way to go

Malik Hazima tells us of his own experience in eating a conventional unhealthy diet that unfortunately a lot of folks are on. He tells about is parents who died early and his grandparents who rarely consumed meat who lived into the 80s and 90s. Whenever Malik ate right, avoiding foods of animal origin, his health improved. He immediately lost weight, diabetes symptoms went away as did high blood pressure. He got off his vegetarian diet and medical problems gradually started to reappear. As a vegan he's even more health, planning to live to 100. As for the recipe part of the book, I like how he included Ingredients, Preparation and Nutritional Values with each recipe.

I am very pleased with this book

This is a marvelous book. I will admit I am not a vegan, but I am always looking for ways to add more vegetables to my diet. The recipes don't call for anything exotic, and most of them sound tasty when I read them, though I'm sure I'll be adding a lot more garlic. The instructions are clear and simple, so even the most basic cook should be able to make most of the recipes with minimal equipment.

There are a few translation issues, and the book does need a bit of editing. But that is NOT affecting my review, and in fact if the author and translator would like, I would freely offer my services to clean it up a bit.

Excellent for anyone who wants to cook in a more healthy, and honestly, frugal manner, and you don't have to be a vegan to enjoy the recipes.

Vegan easy and healthy

As a vegetarian for the past 30 years, I have gradually been cutting out all animal products. I love heavily spiced foods as well. I have already tried one of the recipes and am thrilled with the results. This book will stay at the top of my list for healthy, vegan and delicious meals. Healthy, vegan food does NOT have to taste like cardboard. Highly recommended!
