Fails at Attention to Detail

While there are plenty of numerical reasoning tests available to practice there is little practical advice on short-cutting problems to save time on tests. Additionally, I have noticed numerous instances of poorly worded questions or questions marked with the completely wrong answer in the answer key. It is fairly obvious that no one bothered to review the practice questions to look for mistakes. In one particularly egregious mistake you are given a multiple choice question where answer A is 9/20 and answer B is 18/40. (HINT: those two are the exact same number.)

In sum, if you are looking for practice tests this book is not the worst waste of money but you are probably better served finding another resource.

About the Author
Carl J. Guarneri is Professor of History at Saint Mary's College of California, where he has taught since receiving his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1979. He has also been a visiting professor at Colgate University and the University of Paris. A historian of nineteenth-century America, Guarneri has won national fellowships for his research and published books and articles on reform movements, utopian socialism, the Civil War, and American cultural history. Among these are THE UTOPIAN ALTERNATIVE: FOURIERISM IN NINETEENTH-CENTURY AMERICA (Cornell University Press, 1991) and two edited collections: RELIGION AND SOCIETY IN THE AMERICAN WEST (University Press of America, 1987), and HANGING TOGETHER: UNITY AND DIVERSITY IN AMERICAN CULTURE (Yale University Press, 2001). He is currently writing a book on the Civil War career of Charles A. Dana. He has co-directed institutes for the National Endowment for the Humanities on "Rethinking America in Global Perspective" at the Library of Congress. His survey-course reader, AMERICA COMPARED: AMERICAN HISTORY IN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE (Cengage, 2nd Edition, 2005), and his brief textbook, AMERICA IN THE WORLD: UNITED STATES HISTORY IN GLOBAL CONTEXT (McGraw-Hill, 2007) are seminal undergraduate texts. His anthology, TEACHING AMERICAN HISTORY IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT (M.E. Sharpe, 2008), offers a globalizing "toolkit" for U.S. history instructors. Through his publications and presentations, Dr. Guarneri has been a leading voice in the movement to globalize the study and teaching of U.S. history.

Matthew Knott has been writing code for as long as he can remember; from marveling at moving pixels on a BBC Micro to writing ridiculous text adventures for his Mother on an overheating ZX Spectrum 48k. Matthew has been a professional software developer for the last 12 years, the last 6 of which have been spent in the education sector where he has now entered the sometimes-scary world of management, although when they see the mess he made of the budget that won’t last long. Matthew’s work and hobby is basically the same thing, but when he’s not working, he is loving life in a beautiful part of Wales with his Wife Lisa, and two kids Mikey and Charlotte.

The best book on learning xcode around, bar none!

Let me begin by saying that I have zero coding experience with xcode. I had been making many a false start with the very basics of even knowing where to begin let alone how I would ever remember anything I would learn from what I could find on YouTube or random websites .I often have a hard time motivating myself to start learning and find myself easily discouraged when I get myself in a bind with nowhere to turn. Then one day I decided to search amazon.com on my Ipad mini for all of the eBooks related to xcode for a beginner like me. I came across many but when I would read the sample pages, I would be lost within the first few pages. Then I found "Beginning Xcode" by Matthew Knott. I read all of the sample pages in one sitting and as soon as payday arrived, I immediately ordered the book and had it shipped asap. For me personally, I do much better with a hard copy then an eBook as I tend to make a lot of notes. Once it arrived, I started devouring it, page by page until I realized I had just spent a few hours in one sitting. I couldn't get enough. The book is written in a way that's easy to understand no matter how little programming experience you have. Its also great for experienced developers as it doesn't talk down to you or make you feel as if you reading below your level of understanding. I am a little more than halfway through it and I worry that I wont find another book as well written as this to continue on my learning path. This should be mandatory reading for anyone who has the desire to learn xcode but doesn't know how or where to begin. I would give it 10 stars if I could!!
BTW..I have recently spent the money to become an IOS apple developer. Not that I expect to have an app in the app store anytime soon, but just as a way to get my hands on extra learning material and pre release betas. I would have never had the confidence had it not been for this book.

Haynes manuals are simple to read and understand. I have one for all of my vehicles. They are mostly used for just periodic maintenance though, since todays vehicles are not likely to be torn down by the household mechanic. But still nice to have the information around.

Best book of architecture I ever own it.

This book is very inspiring, it reminds me that we as architects should return and take the paper and pencil to draw the ideas you have on your mind. It also reminds me on how humanity should live together with nature and how architecture should be thought from nature and the air. Ando also taught me that there's no other ornamentation more than the natural shadows, light and wind that comes from the atmosphere and enter into the building.

Highly recommended to everyone, it's not other book of images that you can find from the internet. It's like Ando's private diary shared to us.

The introductory essay outlines the origins of early Indian painting of the first millennium, which set the scene for the development of the art of the book. The sections that follow examine manuscript painting as it evolved from palm-leaf to paper, the emergence of traditional painting as an independent art form, and its demise with the coming of photography. Biographies of the artists whose works appear in this volume and a glossary of their major literary sources provide valuable context.

Disappointed

I bought the book after looking at the you tube video of the author who was describing some of the paintings in detail and showing the details of the miniatures.
I assumed the book will have all this, but was pretty disappointed with the size of the images. They should have been shown blown up to be able to appreciate the details. Only some of them were blown up and also part of the painting. Would have expected better images than this.

This book offers a well written and insightful window into the eclectic and colorful world of Indian Art. Talented and masterful artists and their works from various regions of India are discussed and contextualized. This, at least for me, is so far the greatest and most informative intro into Indian art, artists and techniques i've come across. Comprehensive, well illustrated with colorful plates-many full page-and concise informative writing.Recommended.

This has given me excellent insight on the Mughal miniatures I bought at the Red Fort in Delhi. I'd previously had a hard time estimating both the date they were painted and the name of the artist. Good book. Turns out my little treasures are quite valuable!

The last days of just about everywhere

Some 55 years ago, when I was around 14, I discovered some of the magnificent panoramic paintings of John Martin in a four-volume illustrated book on the Bible (I forget the title), and I was swept away, even if the women in these scenes were dressed in a rather Victorian fashion that probably differed somewhat from the actual dress styles of Babylon and Nineveh in their heyday. I imagined that Martin was a great painter, and it was only after I grew older that I realized that he had been relegated to the attic, if not the basement, of the history of art. It is therefore good to see that he has gotten a bit back into vogue these days. The snobs may sneer at the Cecil DeMille of painting, but "I know what I like."

An excellent book, describing Martin, who (undeservedly) long lost his splendor long time ago, in a proper way, which shows his innovations, in many aspects on par with Turner's, which are even better seen from the modern prospeciive.

The book is informative and richly illustrated. John Martin's contribution to arts and popular culture is considerable. B.C.Morden does a good job analyzing his body of work and influence. For me Martin's influence of the architectural discourse is of special interest. The book provides important insight into artist's view of the architecture of power and catastrophe. I wish quality of reproductions was better.
