About the Author
Jim Kurose is currently a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts. He is the eight-time recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award from the National Technological University, the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award from the college of Natural Science and Mathematics at the University of Massachusetts, and the recipient of the 1996 Outstanding Teaching Award of the Northeast Association of Graduate Schools. He has been the recipient of a GE Fellowship, an IBM faculty Development Award, and a Lilly Teaching Fellowship.

Dr. Kurose is a former Editor-In-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Communications and of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. He is active in the program committees for IEEE Informcom, ACM SIGCOMM, and ACM SIGMETRICS. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University.

Keith Ross is the Leonard Shustek Chaired Professor in the Computer Science Department at Polytechnic University. He has previously been a professor at both Euricom Institute in France and the University of Pennsylvania. In 1999, he co-founded the Internet startup Wimba.com.

Dr. Ross has published over 50 papers and written two books. He has served on editorial boards of five major journals, and has served on the program committees of major networking conferences, including IEEE Infocom and ACM SIGCOMM. He has supervised more than 10 Ph.D. theses. His research and teaching interests include multimedia networking, asynchronous learning, Web catching, streaming audio and video, and traffic modeling. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michig

Fatu writes Starting Your Career as a Contractor as an inspiring but truthful pep talk. He informs readers of the many challenges building and running a construction business can have but reminds them also of the triumphs to be enjoyed when the endeavor is carried out correctly. While the book encompasses many warnings and the hard but honest truth, a positive energy is felt as you progress through every carefully chosen word. One of my first thoughts while reading this was that this book could be instrumental in anyone's hands who desired to start their own business. Most all of the principles and practices advised by expert Fatu can be applied in any industry, construction or not. Required reading for contractors who want to do it right.

The name says it all. If you are thinking of starting your own business and would like to do it a right way from a get go, this book is exactly what you need. Claudiu gets deep into details and tells everything from what it takes to be a great contractor, how to be a good boss to your employees, and all the rest of blows and whistles of running a small residential remodel company.
This book is full of practical advices from a person who's done it many times and willing to share his knowledge as is. Very easy to read.
Initially I bought this book for my Kindle, but ended up buying a paperback as well so I could easier skim through highlited areas. Reading it for a second time now and would definatelly recommend to anyone who wants to be a contractor.

Great book

Played through almost half the book and it's right on. Finally have some great tabs for a good selection of Pink Floyd tunes. Naturally wished for more songs, but book give a good selection to choose from. I highly recommend this book.

No Songs From Animals???

The tabs are pretty accurate and intensive as far as covering most of the guitar parts (and some of the keyboard) played in the recordings. My only disappointment was that not one song from "Animals" was included. "Dogs" would have been the one I would have selected. Despite this flaw, it is worth the money.

Crushing on the vocal crush

This is the second novel of Ms. Swinton’s that I’ve read, and it’s the best so far.

Even though this genre is not my favorite, the story is wonderful. It’s sweet, heart tugging, and has a lot of action. I’ve been pretty entertained. This is good work. And the novel moved along smoothly. Not a moment of the reader’s time was wasted.

I was vested in all of the relationships between all the characters, especially the friendships that Lexi had with Grant, Kari, and Taffy. Great dynamics.
There were moments when I was gasping, moaning, and even cheering. Along with loving and hating. I was all over the place. Very edgy. The author really gets into the MC’s head. Which I loved! I love inner turmoil rolling around in a character and love being able to experience it as the reader.

The main character, Lexi, has shoved some walls up. She’s happy where she is as Miss Independent, so reluctant to change until a few people walk into her life, or rather, walk back into her life. Lexi is a strong person and emotionally charged. At times, she would fall in my eyes, but then redeem herself. So very human that it was easy to connect with her.

As the story progresses, Lexi becomes more fiery than I realized, so fiery, that she’s a bit too stubborn to listen to Nick. Poor Guy.

But the chemistry is Uh-Maz-ing! And I won’t tell you between what characters. Though, more than one pair of characters has chemistry worth drooling over.

Worth a read? Definitely.

I'm Crushing

This was my first book by Lisa Swinton, and now I'm holding myself back from starting Ring on Her Finger immediately.

Vocal Crush centers on Lexi and Nick, who met each other on Broadway seven years ago. Nick broke Lexi's heart, but she has never let him explain his side of the story. Now when she's the coach on a vocal competition TV show, he reenters her life, and finds a spot on her team.

We all know he's going to win her back over, right?

What I really loved about this book, was how I felt like I was there. I could visualize the show, and wanted to know the characters. I wished that Las Vegas Voice was a real show that I could watch.

I ached for Lexi and her heartbreak, and also wanted to yell at her a few times. Yes, she has suffered, but she should have let Nick talk to her.

The romance was sweet, believable, and I loved the way that Nick and Lexi sang together. I now need to download some songs mentioned in this book

Sweet story in a fun setting

This book has a really fun setting. I don't watch music reality shows, but I found myself pulled into the story and the dynamics of the voice competition. It was interesting to see how it all worked backstage and it felt very realistic how it was portrayed.

The main story revolves around Lexi and Nick, who had a relationship seven years prior. Due to some poor choices by Nick, Lexi's unflinching stubbornness, and a lack of communication on both sides, they've been apart and never resolved their issues before. When Lexi finds herself a last-minute judge in the competition and discovers Nick is one of the contestants, they are once again in close proximity and are eventually forced to discuss what happened.

The secondary characters did a good job of adding to the story, but at times I felt that there was too much drama going on, which is probably normal in reality TV and in this type of thematic situation.

3 1/2 starts elevated to 4. It's a clean story with a sweet ending, appropriate to young adult readers.

Great book for practice of situations

This is a great book to practice different situations with your friends or read on your own. It shows you different SOAP charting, nurses notes, doc orders, pt H&P. All the same info as you would find in a chart, you can learn how to read it, how you can write it yourself. Situations are general (most common) diseases you learn about in the beginning of classes. This is the exact same book one of my instructors used for us.

Excellent Text on Conflict Management

I have read many books on conflict management, and I would rate this one the best. It gives a very good overview of the key topics, including conflict styles, interventions, power, etc. The Wilmot-Hocker Assessment Guide is a very useful tool to look at conflicts from many different perspectives. The chapter on Forgiveness and Reconciliation alone is worth the cost of the book - very thoughtful and inspiring.

I bought the book because it was required reading for a class, but I know I will refer to it many times in the future.

The Malvern Murders takes place in 1887 – the year before the infamous ‘Ripper’ murders in London – and Inspector Samuel Ravenscroft of the Whitechapel Constabulary has just failed to apprehend the murderer of a young girl. Reprimanded by his superiors, he is told to undertake a holiday cure in fashionable Malvern.

The author, Kerry Tombs, was born in Smethwick, near Birmingham, in 1945, but grew up in various locations in north Worcestershire. After a career teaching in both England and Australia, he moved to Malvern in 1982, where he became a local genealogist, lecturer and bookseller. He moved to France in 2005, and now lives in Ludlow in Shropshire. Kerry has recently completed his autobiography Passing By, which mainly deals with his childhood in North Worcestershire in the 1950’s, and is currently editing his mother’s memoirs of her life in Smethwick between the world wars.

The Malvern Murders is set in a variety of Malvern locations including St. Ann’s Well, Malvern College, the British Camp and the Priory Church – and in the nearby villages of Colwall and Mathon, and the town of Ledbury.

Please get a proofreader next time

With this book, perhaps I have finally learned my lesson about self-published ebooks. Lured by the bargain price and the high marks, I succumbed to temptation again only to be subjected to yet another author who has little awareness of the effective (or even proper) use of punctuation, and who does not know the difference between homonyms (e.g., bare/bear) and consistently uses the wrong words or misspells (phonetically, maybe) others that should be in the vocabulary of a high school graduate.

The story is decent, the main character is pretty well developed and the setting interesting enough. The problems lie in the stilted dialogue forced upon the reader, along with glaringly modern phrases such as "I'm sorry for your loss." The language, spelling, and punctuation errors add up to something that would never pass muster in a creative writing course.

For others who haven't figured out the formula for detecting these sub-par novels through the reviews, watch for the following:

- A 4-5 star rating with relatively few reviewers.
- The reviews read like a synopsis of the story and are overly generalized or enthusiastic, mentioning the author's other works and that the reviewer will definitely purchase more of them.
- Check out the reviewer's other reviews: are they all 5 stars, and similarly uncritical? Do you share the reviewer's taste in reading material?
- How many reviews has the reviewer submitted: perhaps only for this book/author? Might be a flag that the review exists to artificially boost the rating of the book.
- The review reads like an excerpt from a book-jacket blurb: "The debut novel of Jane Smith elevates the status of the genre and I can't wait for her next great work" type of stuff: it tells you nothing about the work or author and could have been written by someone who didn't even bother reading the book, but is being supportive of a friend or relative.

Review inflation is a known issue, and if you're like me (disgusted by wasting my time on a poorly written book), you'll take the advice "caveat emptor."

Good story; terrible lack of editing!

The grammar and spelling are so bad that I almost didn't finish the book! Had it not been for wanting to know how the story ended, I would have abandoned it! Was there NO editing?? Such a disappointment!

There are serious problems with this work, in both proofreading and plot continuity. I wonder if there was any editorial work done at all or it was accepted and published without review.

I found myself speculating if the book was intended as humor, but could not accept humor as an excuse for the many unacceptable faults.

One small example is that "a leg of mutton" is offered as a meal for one person. Does the author even know how much meat is on a leg of mutton?

The inspector immediately jumps into the investigation, with only a constable's word that his assistance is welcome. Magistrates or other authorities never become involved, even when notable citizens keep dropping dead. It seems beyond credibility that local authorities would not challenge an inspector from the city's meddling.

The inspector determines poisoning by the slimmest of evidence, and later claims that the poison is confirmed but by whom or by what means is never described.

Another example cannot be described without spoiling, but let it be suffice that a character confesses to mis-representing him/herself, leading to blackmail. Yet the character is easily found early in the book by his/her real name, and is never identified by the assumed name.

There is another point in the book when a character falls ill while under the supervision of a physician at a health retreat. But it is not the physician nor his staff who care for the character but his/her friends. Why did the character not find this suspicious?

While the main character is likable, I really can't recommend much else about this book.

Prioleau's captivating debut is a fervid self-help tract well-disguised as a history. "Seductresses are in fact the liberated women incarnate," asserts the author in her opening chapter. "They're the stealth heroines of history. The first feminists." It's a persuasive argument, which Prioleau pounds home with massive fists full of quotations, attributions and texts from anthropology, religion, psychology, history, art, literature, music and anything else she can get her hyperintellectual hands on. Modern women have lost their goddess-centered groove, the Manhattan College professor asserts, and as a consequence the entire race is going to hell in a male-dominated, bimbo-focused handbasket. If only women would search their collective unconscious for their archetypal Goddess roots, they'd realize modern feminism has rendered them joyless, and the reality TV/Barbie look-alike trends are hooey. Rather, women of any age (there's a chapter on "silver foxes") or looks (another chapter on "homely sirens") are multiorgasmic, brilliant, joyous power mavens who possess everything to bring a man to his willing knees and keep both genders happy and sated. Educational and Inspiring Sexy Little Black Book! ;-)

If you are a literate woman, you must give this book a peek! :-) There is no guarantee that you will adore it, but it's worth a try just in case you fall in love with it like I did!

Though I've never been a woman of particularly low self-esteem, I have hit emotionally low points. It was during one of these times that I was cruising Amazon for something fun and empowering to read, and this book fit the bill perfectly.

As discussed in several other reviews,"Seductress" by Betsy Prioleau is broken into several chapters: a preface, 2 introductory chapters and a chapter devoted to each seductress archetype that Ms. Prioleau groups her subjects into: non-beauties, seniors, intellectuals, artists, rulers/policy-makers and adventurers. There is also a last chapter discussing the present and future of the Seductress.

This book is hard to classify. It is designed to uplift women, so I guess it's kind of self-help, but it has very little blatant instruction. Instead, you get a handful of Seductress/Goddess qualities in an opening chapter and a whole lot of mini-biographies on intelligent, lively feisty women. The "Seductress" information that is contained here is for the reader to "absorb" from the book's subjects.

What I LOVE about this book: First of all, I love its non-gentle, kick-in-the-rear, warrior tone. No hand-holding here! The overall message as I perceived it: "Women are the original leaders of the prehistoric world. They were revered. Here's why. YOU are a woman. Take back what's yours! Look how these women did it!"
Though Prioleau argues aggressively for women's superiority, there also is an important element throughout the book highlighting the importance of enjoying men and sex. In abundance. Men are not our enemies. Men are great. They should make you feel wonderful, strong and sexy (though your own happiness should come from within).

I also enjoyed the first 2 chapters which outlined the history of the Seductress as a type of woman and of the goddess in prehistory and ancient civilization. Some may find these chapters a bit dry and repetitive, but as someone who loves history and world goddess culture, I found it very interesting. This is actually where I received the most empowering information about what makes a Seductress: Be a goddess, get treated like a goddess. Hey, its a formula that works! :-) The meat-and-potatoes of the book - the mini bios themselves - are also uplifting, but entertaining as well.

My absolute fave women here (and there are soo many that I have never heard of!) include Ninon De L'Enclos, Victoria Woodhull, Agnes Sorel, Hortense Mancini, Madame de Maintenon, Diane de Poitiers, Nell Gwyn, Emilie du Chatelet, Beryl Markham, Wallis Simpson, Lola Montez, Josephine Baker and, of course, the indomitable Cleopatra VII. This book caused me to add a full-length biography of each woman to my Amazon book wish list (where available). I catch myself thinking of these women from time to time and wondering how they would handle a situation. I should make a bracelet that reads WWCD: What Would Cleopatra Do? :-) LOL!

As a lover of reading and words, this book was very well-written and full of beautifully crafted language. Because of this, the reading was slow for me at times. But the words she uses are not to be flown through, but savored. There are also many humorous and thought-provoking historical quotes at the beginning of each chapter concerning women and sex,love and power (or women's lack of the aforementioned qualities).

I am so happy that I stumbled across this book, and I urge other women to give it a go as well. I love this book, and I pray that you see the same wisdom and magic in it as I do.

I love this book

read this with an open mind. it is a stunning look at women, and at women with power. i first got my hands on this book at 16 and i have bought it about 9 times. it is a wonderful look at how to be powerful, beautiful inside and out, and how to be happy. every time i read this book it helps me re learn to love myself. i have had almost every woman i know read it and it is a beautiful start in a long road to love

Until you understanding seduction you will never believe you can be a seductress. This book shows that there's no one type fits all seductress. Excellent book. In a time where seduction is based on everything other than what it is, this book is a wonderful source for learning and referencing the women who lived and embodied each type of seductress. I would recommend it.

What a strange man

I was very intrigued with Howard Hughes's life and got exactly what I asked for....I soaked up every word until I realized I was reading a book about a
very disturbed man which is fine but there is so much repetition about his deals ..he was a unscrupulous person...I can only handle so much of his whining.

This is the first book I had read about Mr. Hughes. A wonderful book. At times slightly more detailed than I would like.. Buts lots of great information about truly one of the most interesting characters of the 20th century.

The best Howard Hughes book you'll ever find!

This book answers the question, "How did he get to be that way?" It delves deeply into his relationship with his mother (and lack of one with his father) and follows him into adulthood. He seems a little eccentric but still within the normal range for most of his early life. He lived lavishly, but his demons caught up with him eventually. The pity is it didn't have to be that way.

I read this book when it was on the Best Sellers list. Howard Hughes was the subject of one of my papers for a psychology class and this book was my main source.
