An excellent workbook for all western dressage

I am training a young mule and myself in Western Dressage. A friend and person who rode classical dressage recommended this book, 101 Western Dressage. It has been invaluable for my work. The format of the book is a spiral so it is easy to turn to an exercise while in the arena, review it and then proceed to work. The explanations and diagrams are excellent. You Cannot miss on this book if you and your equine want to learn dressage in a progression that builds upon itself.

Good concise review of math essentials

The book starts out with a diagnostic test that consists of 48 questions. It does not say to complete it in a certain amount of time, but I would recommend you allocate about 90 minutes for it. One of the biggest mistakes is solving problems without a time limit. Browsing the questions, there was a big mix (definitions, algebra, geo, graphs, etc.) The pre-test questions also appear in ascending difficulty (much like the OG). Like the OG problems/GMAT, there are answers in the problems that follow common mathematical mistakes (you can complete the work, think you have the correct answer, but a common mistake led you here and VERITAS knows it).

The subsequent sections cover the topics in the order seen in the diagnostic test. Many of the definitional issues (and shortcuts in algebra) are covered throughout the book. Each section has a post test to cover the topics covered. Draw back: explanations were not always given. The content appeared to be sufficient to figure out where the misstep/confusion resides, but that may not be true for all people. This is true across the drills and in book exercises (not consistent where explanations are given vs where explanations are not given). Explanations were given more often then not.

Strengths:
- Word translation section appears solid (as an intro. There is a later book on word problems).
- Given this is an intro book, there is a limited supply of advanced problems (later books are labeled "Advanced" or "(section name) 2")
- Lots of sidebar notes (i.e. triangles always show up). These sidebar notes supplement the section in question and provide some strategy to the topic
- Later problems in the book combine the current section with previous sections

Weaknesses:
- Sometimes steps are skipped (factoring does not show all the steps for simplification)
- Shape sections (triangle and quadrilateral section) are a bit thin as an intro
- No mention of combined shapes (a triangle or pizza slice shape embedded in a circle or semi circle)
- Could use a cheat-sheet for each reference of most common formulas/shortcuts/etc

Bottom Line: Excellent intro for the quant section. Provides a solid framework on what is needed and what areas may require additional attention.

Five Stars For What It Is

If you are like me and are several years removed from actually using high school math, this is likely a good book to start with. It is clear and concise with a few practice questions for each topic. I spent just a few hours going through the book and completing every practice problem. It helped me remember the fundamentals, which I then applied when learning the more intricate details of the GMAT.

The Math Essentials book is a great review of all of the math skills that you once knew but haven't used in a while. Going through the exercises is very helpful in getting your mind used to mental math again, and the explanations help to show you the bad habits and mistakes you've picked up over the years.

Simon Flower grew up in Sheffield, where he spent much of his free time mountain biking and climbing in the Peak District. In 1998 he took up caving at university, before discovering canyoning a year later. This book precisely what i needed for going canyoneering in the alps with my friends. I go back every year to do canyons in northern Italy, sometimes Ticino, Lombardia, Piemonte. This book documents all the best canyons in those areas.

Another great book from Brenda Harlen

Another great book from Brenda Harlen! Avery and Justin work as Drs. in the same hospital and have been fighting an attraction for 3 years. Finally after working New Years Eve together they give into that attraction and a baby is the result. Avery doesn't trust Justin because he is known as Dr. Romeo at the hospital and she doesn't want to have a relationship with a dr. due to her childhood having two parents as drs. Justin warms to the idea of being a daddy and wants to marry Avery. She is stubborn but Justin does not give up. I love that he was somewhat of a player but there were really no women in the book that caused them any issues. I felt the issues they had were more in line with real life. Justin did some really sweet things for Avery making this story a romantic, sexy (they had great chemistry) fun read. Of course loved hearing about the past Garretts and meeting new characters. Mainly Avery's brother! This is a great series I would highly recommend!

Better Than Grey's Anatomy!

The best thing about the Those Engaging Garretts series is that you can pick up anywhere and not feel lost. Each couple has their own story to tell and the rest is woven in subtly but efficiently.
Avery and Justin are well-developed characters right from the start. Harlen made it very easy to see how their simmering attraction could lead to a moment of wild abandon ... and a baby. The pacing of their relationship was perfect for their personalities.
The hospital setting reminded me of why I fell in love with Grey's Anatomy (McDreamy/Wall-Ice). Loved the gossip and the jealous nurse.
I love the contrast of their families' support. I got a huge kick from the epilogue - the most unique out of any book I've read.
There are so many Garretts and in-laws in this family that I look forward to meeting them all.

Garrett playboy has met his match!

Another great Garrett story! I have been waiting for Justin's story and Brenda did not disappoint. Justin is an ER doctor and Avery is a Obstetrician and they have worked together for three years. Justin has the reputation of being a playboy, with gossip about him everywhere. Avery has avoided his flirtation and isn't interested, or so she says. New Years Eve, they are both working and it's a long night for both of them, when he catches her in a moment, and pulls her into the supply closet and they have sex without protection. She tends to ignore him after that, even though he tries to see her again. Avery had a bad experience with her former fiancee and doesn't trust men easily, plus she doesn't want another doctor, because both parents are doctors, and paid more attention to their careers than to their kids or each other, leading to a split. Avery soon finds out she is pregnant. Justin is shocked, but wants to marry her. She says no. He has an uphill battle getting her to believe he is interested in her only her and for herself. She fights it tooth and nail, but when she goes to tell her parents about the baby, her mom tells her to get rid of it, and she calls Justin, he drops everything to go to her in Atlanta. She starts to realize he is for real. He goes with her to see her dad, which goes much better. After a scare of a possible miscarriage, Avery moves in with Justin so he could watch after her, she stays five months! Then someone says something to her that has her running scared of the relationship they are building and moves back home. Justin gives her some time then professes his love in a very public way. She moves back in, but doesn't want to get married right away. Guess when she does, yep, the day the baby is coming! LOVE LOVE LOVE this series! Can't wait for Ryder's (Avery's brother) story coming next.
