“Phenomenal Woman: Four Poems Celebrating Women” Review

Maya Angelou was an American poet, a great memoirist, and civil rights activist that helped influence the world. She was a powerful, yet beautiful voice to the voiceless. Her works have been deemed some of the most beautiful works of art, providing the wisdom and hope all people look for. The four poems within the collection, “Phenomenal Woman: Four Poems Celebrating Women” is definitely a keeper because she gives you all walks of life as a woman in which she actually experienced firsthand in one single book. Maya Angelou’s book, “Phenomenal Woman” is one of her best works that I think every girl, no matter the color of her skin, should have in their collection because it helps young women to face adversities, build an identity, and appreciate why we are all unique and special.
Although the book goes in a different order when reading, I would like to begin with “Our Grandmothers” to set the foundation connecting history to the present. This poem told the story of generations of women that faced adversities in order to save and support their children. I believe this poem demonstrates how grandmothers and mothers are a critical asset to the family. It briefly begins with the scene of a mother enslaved en route to save her children knowing that she would be the sacrifice for their freedom. It further names great African-American women who came before us, who sacrificed and laid down a foundation of strength, which allowed many of us to be here today. It finally connects the dots to the “grandmothers” and adversities we see in today’s generation; still yet these women are being an angel to their families, even though they struggle to provide in a time and age where the “system” is still against them.
The poem “Weekend Glory” is definitely a must read because in today’s society, we see young women with a lack of priorities. These young ladies would rather flaunt and impress people while living above their means than conduct themselves as ladies. They struggle with low self-esteem and insecurities that they “bandage” with fancy cars, clothing, and glamour while still being unhappy. This poem can definitely teach young women how to strive for more, have priorities, and still have fun.
This collection of poems should also be purchase because it helps young women to build a strong identity no matter what society says or try to do to break them down. In the poem “Still I Rise”, Maya demonstrates with her powerful voice no matter what is thrown your way, said, or physically/mentally breaks you down, you will still rise and overcome. I believe this poem is also very important due to what is going on in current society with the killing of innocent black men, women, boys and girls. This poem was referred to as the “Black Anthem” by writer Hermene Hartman in 2014. This poem still applies to today’s complications in which Maya fought so hard to resolve before her death. This poem teaches us to persevere, be patient, strong, and continue to be the hopes and dreams of our ancestors.
In closing, the final poem, “Phenomenal Woman” is my favorite because it taught me no matter how different I am, to appreciate and embrace my differences because it makes me unique. This poem is what allowed me to be open with myself and build my own foundation. I love myself for the country, tall, skinny, kinky hair QUEEN that I am.
This is a book for all women to pass down from generation to generation, and yet the words of this book remains as powerful and meaningful as when they were first written by our dear beloved Maya Angelou. So of course, I recommend the purchasing of this collection.

Inspiring! An essential treasure for all women to have.

Wonderful! Such a powerful 'little' book that I believe every woman should have. This was a gift to my mum. I would definitely recommend it as a gift to women of all ages. If so, make sure you have one for yourself or read it before you give it. The words are beautifully preached from the amazing soul that is Maya Angelou. Give her a place in your heart and you will be richly rewarded for the remainder of your lifetime.

I was absolutely crushed when they told me the NBA was not interested in drafting 5'6" Jewish guys so I carried on into my natural habitat, business! For 20 years I owned and operated Blind Devotion Window Coverings. About 15 years into it I was living thru one of the worst economies America has seen in my lifetime. But I also knew that the bad economy was masking mistakes I've been making for years in business. I knew that had I done things the right way I would still be running a strong business. It was then I looked for coaches, mentors, and Master Mind groups to help teach me about how to improve my marketing, sales, and business knowledge. The journey was a blast. I managed to take my business from $500,000 a year to over $1 Million in sales in just 2 years. I then reached my goal to sell my business in 2013. Now I'm enjoying consulting with other small businesses to help them reach their goals. Most I find have never even set goals. I'm working with them to help them understand what the path to success is and how to recognize and celebrate their achievements. The book is short and it is an easy read. While it does provide some solid ideas ...

"My New Book", by Jerry Levinson is a "How To" book designed to provide a handful of strategies to increase the small business owner's income. The book is short and it's an easy read. While it does provide some solid ideas for increasing revenue, the practical application is not for the squeamish. Stepping out and raising prices when "everyone" else is lowering theirs just screams "risky business", though backing it up with great service makes absolute sense. Chapter 4, "Find Your Best Customer" is by far the best in the book. The critical review on advertisements really drills down on the good, the bad, and the ugly advertisements consumers are faced with every day.

All in all, the book is geared more for the business person that is already established and perhaps is ready to take a critical look at what parts of the business could and should be done by other employees. Mr. Levinson makes some keen observations on stripping some of the day-to-day time consuming tasks off of the business owner and delegating them to a capable employee. On that note, Mr. Levinson would have been well served to take his own advice. Grammar and spelling do count, and when writing a book for publication, every effort should be expended to get a good editor as the errors noted detracted from the over-all message. On the positive side, many of the tips this author provides are good take-away gems that employees in leadership roles, or desiring to be in leadership roles, in any business can use.

About the Author
Poet, performer, anthologist, John Agard was born in Guyana and came to Britain in 1977. He won the Casa de las Americas Prize in 1982, and a Paul Hamlyn Award in 1997. He was writer-in-residence with the BBC in 1998, working with the Windrush Project, and writer-in-residence at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in 2007. His books include six collections from Bloodaxe, From the Devil's Pulpit (1997), Weblines (2000), We Brits (2006), Alternative Anthem: Selected Poems (2009), Clever Backbone (2009), and Travel Light Travel Dark (2013). His anthology Hello New (2000), published by Orchard Books, was chosen by the Poetry Society as its Children's Poetry Bookshelf Best Anthology. We Brits was shortlisted for the 2007 Decibel Writer of the Year Award. He won the CLPE Poetry Award 2009 for The Young Inferno (Frances Lincoln Children's Books, 2008). He lives in Lewes, East Sussex.

To the guy who said that the maps are mirrored

To the person who says that this guide features mirrored maps; if you read the beginning, there is a note that says that these maps are used for the normal version of the game, not the hero version. Everything is mirrored in the hero version. So before you leave a bad review, learn to read thoroughly.

Very Similar to the Original Twilight Princess Collector's Edition Guide...

I will start by saying I am a huge Zelda Fan and whenever a new game is released, I look forward to these hard cover guides almost as much as I look forward to the game itself. I thought I would give my thoughts on this new guide to help you make a decision with your purchase.

I have the Prima Zelda Chest that includes the Hard Cover Guide for the original Twilight Princess so I was able to compare that one with this new one.

Some things to note:

-Both books are exactly the same number of pages. If anyone has seen the original TP guide, it was THICK, probably the single thickest of these Zelda Books. The new book for the HD version of the game is noticeable thinner. This is due to a pretty apparent lighter paper weight.

-In flipping through the pages and doing some comparisons, the two books are very, very similar. Pages I turned to looked identical with the same text and layout with only very minor changes like a screenshot being bigger, or things like that. The HD book does have all new screen shots, and some (but not all) are actually of the same screen shot from the previous game. (Just taken in the new HD remake of course.)

-The book does have a section near the end for the new dungeon and amiibo support, so the book must deviate at some point since as I said they are identical in page count yet this one obviously has a section the old book does not.

So overall it's another great book and I am happy to have it to use to play through Twilight Princess HD. Just be aware of it's similarities to the original Twilight Princess Guide.

I almost forgot to mention this new guide is mirrored from the original Guide. The original guide was for the Wii version of the game, in which the entire game world was flipped to make Link right handed for using the Motion Controls and Wiimote. The HD version of the game is based on the non-flipped GameCube version, so the new guide is the un-mirrored "Original" version of the game's world.

Great Guide for HD Twilight Princess

First I'd like to make sure everyone realizes for which game this guide is intended. There have been 3 different versions of Twilight Princess. One on GameCube, one on Wii and the newest version on the Wii U. The GameCube and Wii U have the original un-mirrored world. This guide is intended for the Wii U version, and as such if used with the Wii version you'll notice that the maps are mirrored.

The guide itself is very beautiful. The gold on the pages is nice. Flipping through it however I am a little worried that with use some pages might come loose. (the binding doesn't seem great)

I love that there are detailed check lists on where to find all the collectables (heart pieces, golden bugs, poes). For us completionists this guide is perfect.

I also like that there's a number of hearts shown in each section. It pretty much tells you if you've missed a piece of heart.

I like how there's a section detailing monster/enemy threat level. Towards the back there's also a guide for the new amiibo dungeon detailing strategies on how to best it.

Overall great guide for the new HD remake of the Wii U version of Twilight Princess.
